Package Overview

This is one of the most spectacular (and underrated) green-season combos in Botswana: the vast, open fossil landscapes of the Central Kalahari with its black-maned lions and cheetahs, followed by the dramatic zebra & wildebeest migration on the Boteti River in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park — up to 30,000 zebras and thousands of wildebeest moving in January–March.

  • Day 1: Maun → Central Kalahari Game Reserve (Deception Valley area) 07:30am

    depart Maun

  • Morning

    Drive 260–280 km (4½–5½ hrs) via Rakops & Matswere Gate (fuel up in Rakops)

  • Afternoon

    Afternoon game drive in Deception Valley — look for black-maned Kalahari lions, cheetah, oryx, springbok

  • Overnight

    Mobile camping (private site) – best experience

  • Days 2–3: Full days Central Kalahari Game Reserve

    Explore Deception Valley, Passarge Valley, Piper Pan, Sunday Pan, Letiahau waterhole

  • Highlights

    Lion prides hunting in golden grass, cheetah on the pans, meerkats, brown hyenas at dusk, incredible starry skies

  • Activities

    Long morning & afternoon game drives, optional San cultural walk (if with guide)

  • Day 4: CKGR → Makgadikgadi Pans NP (Boteti River western bank)

    Early departure (06:30–07:00). Drive 280–320 km (5–6 hrs) via Khumaga Gate

    Arrive for afternoon game drive along the Boteti River — thousands of zebras & wildebeest drinking, predators stalking the herds

  • Overnight

    Western bank of Boteti inside the park (best for migration viewing)

  • Days 5–6: Full days Makgadikgadi Pans NP – Zebra Migration

    Prime locations: Khumaga area, Boteti River front

  • Morning & afternoon

    Morning & afternoon game drives along the river — massive zebra herds, wildebeest, elephants, lions, wild dogs

    Quad-bike excursion on the pans (weather permitting)
